To promote a more equitable and effective solution to the homeless issue. An alternative that advances and fosters a person in a less fortunate situation to develop a sense of self worth by giving them the tools to better themselves in their current geographical environment. Wherever they find themselves, a mapping app that empowers the user to navigate in an unfamiliar location, locating goods and services, and any information that would better serve their ability to rejoin productive society.
After the Supreme Court’s decision, City of Grant Pass VS. Johnson (28 June 2024), allowing cities to remove encampments from municipal properties, cities like Berkeley, Los Angeles and Chicago will see an increase in the population of homeless because of their refusal to side with the Supreme Court and not move the less fortunate off city lands. These three cities are an example of municipalities seeking a more equitable solution and as a result, more of the less fortunate will migrate to localities that don’t move them off public lands. This migration will increase large numbers of people into unfamiliar environments that lack the knowledge of where to access needed resources, prompting the need for a navigation app that will connect these people with the opportunities to improve their current situation. Promoting self help and trying to avoid dependency, while giving the less fortunate a chance to invest in themselves, is the focus of this new app.
